Constance Murray Piano Festival
The Constance Murray Piano Festival will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at West Chester University. ALL students in grades 1 – 12 are encouraged to participate. This festival provides a wonderful opportunity for all students to perform for adjudication. Please call Ms. Ping Wang with any questions about entering your students. Teachers must have paid National, State, and Local dues by November 1, 2017 in order to participate.

Guidelines for Enrollment

Each student is to play two CONTRASTING pieces by memory. Intermediate level compositions may be from the same time period if they are contrasting in style. Two pieces by the same composer is strongly discouraged; however, a fast and a slow movement of a sonata or sonatina is acceptable. Given time constraints no concerti movements will be accepted.

Time the length of each piece exactly in minutes and seconds. There is no need to add them together. In calculating the years of study, one private weekly lesson for nine months equals 2/3 years of study.

AM and PM time requests are given only if absolutely necessary. Please ask students BEFORE sending in applications about times that are impossible. Time requests are to be used only for specific conflicts, NOT for preference and convenience.


A non-refundable entry fee of $18.00 is required for each student. The total amount of all teacher’s student fees should be included in one check payable to MLMTA. The check and monitor preference should be sent to Ms. Ping Wang by Monday, February 19, 2018. Late entries will not be processed.

Online registration is preferred!! Teachers can register students on this website by going to Festival Registration. Please email Ms. Ping Wang, if you have questions. The online registration deadline is Monday, February 19, 2018. Teachers who submit entries electronically will receive their schedule, monitor assignment, and student information sheet by e-mail.

Make as many copies of the entry form as necessary. Only the form found in the teacher's handbook is acceptable, and must be filled out completely, including repertoire and exact times. Please print or type the information. Please designate siblings so they can be scheduled together. Postmark deadline is Monday, February 19, 2018. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE PROCESSED!!

The teacher's form at the bottom of the paper student entry form must accompany both electronic and paper registrations. Please arrange your schedule so that you are available to help on Festival Day.

Once you have received your schedule, please give it to your student as soon as possible. Please report all cancellations immediately. This makes it possible to reschedule other students. After the deadline date of Monday, February 19, 2018, NO CHANGES WILL BE MADE.

Guidelines for Festival Day

Students should arrive 5 – 10 minutes ahead of time and check in with the front door monitor for their room number. To reduce congestion and noise, students should be accompanied by only one adult if possible.

Please be sure students have an original copy of their music. Students with no music or with photo-copied music may be disqualified at the judge's discretion.

Auditions are private between student and judge only.

Superior, Excellent, Very Good, and Honorable Mention Ribbons will be awarded.
  • Superior - A performance which is very musical and technically controlled.
  • Excellent - A performance which is mostly in control and reaches anacceptable standard of excellence.
  • Very Good - A performance which shows some commendable aspects but needs more work to achieve a convincing performance.
  • Honorable Mention - An inadequate performance.

Beginning at 5:00 PM on festival day, teachers must pick up their ribbons and certificates or arrange for someone else to do it.

The decision of the judge is final. Please direct questions to the Festival Chairperson, not the judge.

Please do not enter the tabulating room, to avoid confusion, error, and congestion.
